OK Taxi's, School Me on Taking care of a Wolf.
« on: September 14, 2012, 08:56:27 PM »
Going to be in Idaho with a tag in the pocket.  It will be a backpack trip so I will be in the boonies for 6-8 days.

So, if I want a rug, do I just skin it like I would a bear?

Should I tube it?

Any other ideas?

If you want a rug skin like you would a bear leaving paws head and tail fully intact.
What would life be without the thrill of the hunt?

Speaking for myself: I have no interest in putting a wolf on my wall. Maybe the skull.

Maybe I'll do like the movie The Grey and hike right into their den. Except I'd be hanging a bloody hide on a branch.  :chuckle:

Hahahaha, yeah.  I think a full body would be kind of cool.

I can respect that.  If I kill a nice cougar, I'm getting a full mount.

I just hate wolves so much I'd probably use it for an archery target.

Lol, great reason for a full body mount, very realistic. I hate them too.

Yes you would skin it out like you would for a bear rug.

I suppose it would be unethical to tell you just to shoot one and save your tag for later.   Their hides look like crap right now and I wouldn't really recommend one for any sort of taxidermy work.  Anyhow, I do hope you see one and hope you kill one.  Goodluck.

Tube it out will give you more options when you get back, Worse case you can just hang it on the wall as a pelt

Wear the hide to the next wolf hearing in Washington. :IBCOOL:

make sure you wear rubber gloves and don't let the blood get on you! Don't be burring your face in their fur... most have some nasty parisites so take precautions... Can you buy multipal wolf tags in ID? they are only $35 ea?
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

I would tube it, and cut off at the paw hinge, get it in the cooler, gives you way more options,  whack the head off for a euro mount, and hang the carcuss in the trees for his brothers to see.
